Rational For 
Christopher Columbus WebQuest


Introduction
This lesson was developed at a Cooperating Teacher's Workshop in National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS) sponsored by Appalachian State University Public School Partnership in July of 2001.
This lesson is intended to be used as a culminating activity for a unit on Christopher Columbus taught in the 3rd Grade.
 



Learners
This lesson follows the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for 3rd Graders.  It is a social studies based activity correlated with language arts, computer skills, information skills, and research skills.  Learners will collaborate on a product which will demonstrate their ability to apply the concepts of the unit under study.  This lessons will also correlates with the National Educational Technology Standards.
In order to be successful with this activity students will need to be familiar with Internet research and Microsoft Word.

Evaluation

Students will complete a self assessment using the rubric on the student page.  They will also be assessed by the teacher using the same rubric.
 



Conclusion

This performance based activity will allow students to apply what they have learned about Christopher Columbus, collaborate with a group of peers, understand new knowledge, and practice technology skills.
