Minutes of theTechnology Advisory Committee October 5, 1999.
Members present: Fred Badders, Michael Bennett, Charles Duke, Terry McClannon, Robert Muffoletto, Joe Murphy, Richard Riedl, John Spagnolo, Wendy Trivette.
Minutes: After deciding that summary minutes need to be kept and made available to faculty through the college web site, a system for recording will be developed perhaps with committee members taking turns.
Technology Purchase, Notification, and Advisement Form/System (TPNA): The committee continued to review and revise the TPNA form available on the RCOE web site. In addition to all requests for computers and related equipment/software (other than those normally requested through departmental funds) needing to be submitted through this form, there also is a need for the committee/college to be informed of all purchases to avoid possible software/hardware conflicts and to provide appropriate support. The form will be revised. Other issues include the role of department chairs in purchase and use of technology within the department.
RCOE Strategic Plan for Uses of Technology. Discussion began of updating portions of the plan (after deleting components completed in recent years). As the vision, mission, and goals/objectives were discussed, some questions included: What is the role of RCOE in the university technology plan? Where should distance learning be put? What is TACÕs role? What are some of the emerging "state of the art" possibilities? What should be our working definition of "technology"? Committee members are to review goals/objectives, share perspectives on the committee discussion/forum web site, and continue discussion during future meetings.
Tasks for Next Meeting (2:00 p.m., October 19, 1999): React/respond to items above. Set time lines for development and approval of the Plan. Discussion of RCOE servers. Roles of technology specialists to be condensed/defined for everyone.
A nondebatable motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and approved by action of foot.
