REICH COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

STRATEGIC PLAN FOR USES OF TECHNOLOGY
2000

Vision

The Reich College of Education, as a community of practice, embraces the exploration of the many ways that educational technology can enliven the teaching/learning process. Educational technology is understood to be the process of applying tools for educational purposes. Those tools and their uses are constantly evolving but include such devices as computers, videocassette recorders, video and still cameras, CD-ROMs, scanners and the whole variety of software and accessories that can be used with such devices. Our vision of the role technology plays within this community is to create the disposition among our students, faculty, and staff towards ongoing, appropriate, and effective uses of technology across a wide array of learning and work settings for the lifetime of the student, faculty member, and staff person.

Mission

The Reich College of Education will create an environment in which the widest possible range of teaching/learning technologies are available to students, faculty, staff, and administration. We want each member of the community to be fully able to apply the most appropriate technology to the teaching/learning task at hand. We also encourage the creation and use of new models of thinking and conceptualization to inform our choices regarding the technology we choose to apply in learning, teaching, research and service.

Goals and Objectives

The Reich College of Education has identified the following goals as its top priorities for the use of technology in support of its mission in teaching, learning, research and service:

1. Integrate technology in a thoughtful and appropriate manner throughout all curricula

2. Establish and upgrade communication, technology/media learning, research and service environments for students, staff and faculty

3. Continue to develop and expand state-of-the-art networks and connectivity

4. Institute a comprehensive program to develop faculty and staff knowledge and skills for the appropriation and innovative use of technologies

5. Maintain a flexible, responsive support system

6. Create an effective internal structure for administering and evaluating the attainment of the college's goals in technology

7. Be a leader in and beyond the Appalachian community with teaching and learning via technology
