Unapproved Minutes of the Technology Advisory Committee 11 April 2000

Members present: Charles Duke, Joe Murphy, Fred Badders, Michael Bennett, Terry McClannon , John Tashner, Richard Riedl, John Spagnolo, George Olson. Guests: Mick Kreszock and Charles Kessler

Minutes:

Michael B. gave equipment update: PCI cards are being installed and upgrades should be complete by summer. Need for storage space was discussed. Terry M. updated group on media lab renovations and the group discussed wiring and ceiling replacement coordination.

Dick R. suggested sending groups of faculty to a selected conferences with clear roles and a responsibility to reflect and share in return. 4/18 was suggested as a time to plan concrete steps.

Jon T. spoke of the need for a common vision and shared values and that this strategy would lead to better informed discussions and decision with respect the integration of technology in the RCOE.

The TAC's role in the allocation of technology funds for the college was discussed . Each department needs to identify priorities based on the RCOE technology plan and bring them before the TAC with concrete examples. It was suggested that this process begin during the 4/18 meeting.

Charles Kessler presented to the committee his role and goals for distance learning at ASU:

provide a viable web support mechanism

provide necessary resources for e-students

support degree programs

work with focus groups on distance learning issues

work with proctors/facilitators

provide engineering support for local sites - "warm relationship"

create a service environment

team approach

instructional design through media lab (ITS)

support faculty/staff with media productions

coordinate resources

Group discussed training needs and relationship with TLT initiative

Charles expressed a need to know about things that are not working
