General Information

The National Educational Technology Standards  for Teachers (NETS-T) are organized in general categories: technology operations and concepts, planning and designing learning environments, teaching, learning and the curriculum (NCSCS), professional productivity (subject specific),  assessment and evaluation,  and social, ethical, human and legal issues; for the academic year 2002-03, students will be required to address the standards in every identified area. No passing grade for student teaching will be recorded until the student has met all requirements and the designated proficiency level. The appropriate completion form must also be signed by the student and all members of the "review panel".

Students will be provided a variety of opportunities to strengthen their basic technology skills and to produce appropriate products and rationales to address the standards. Among the support features will be the following:

  • a means for completing a self-appraisal to determine skill and experience  levels
  • course related activities  where the emphasis will be on learning and practicing skills while working on products related to addressing the standards
  • access to labs to work on products and to practice  and develop skills
  • in-class demonstrations of effective technology use for teaching and learning
  • sample student portfolios and telefolios.

Students must retain their collected and organized  products and reflections through student teaching . It is highly recommended that student teachers incorporate into their field-based classroom activities a technology product developed during their professional preparation.  The successful implementation of technology enhanced curriculum plans should be observed by the University Supervisor and critically reflected upon and discussed with the Academic Consultant and the Cooperating Teacher

A representative sample of students' technology artifacts/rationales will be collected and archived; these will be used as a means for developing appropriate evaluation processes, faculty training, and documentation for DPI and NCATE.

Primary emphasis will be placed on developing the knowledge , skills and disposition of education candidates enrolled in block classes, professional education and/or methods classes who will be seeking licensure at the completion of student teaching.

As a part of the final review for licensure, a student must have a signed completion form on file in the Office of Field Services showing that the student has appropriately addressed the standards.
